Therapy for Meaningful Change
Evidence-based psychotherapy and collaborative psychological assessment with a person-centered approach.
A space to understand what's keeping you stuck, whether that's depression, anxiety, relationship patterns, grief, or something harder to name, and build practical skills for boundaries, confidence, and lasting change.
In person in South Austin and online throughout Texas.
Who I Work With
I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, and the uncertainty that comes with major life transitions.
Whether you're dealing with something specific or just feel stuck, therapy can help you understand what's driving the patterns and build a path forward.
I specialize in the following three areas:
Psychedelic Preparation and Integration
If you are planning a psychedelic experience or processing one that has already happened, I provide the therapeutic support to help you prepare intentionally and integrate what comes up. I do not administer or facilitate dosing sessions. I help you do the psychological work before and after.
Men's Issues
Many men arrive at therapy when the strategies that used to work stop working. I help men explore identity, purpose, masculinity, and emotional life in a way that respects how they actually process, not how they've been told they should.
Assertiveness Training
If you struggle to set boundaries, speak up for yourself, or say no without guilt, I can help. I use a structured, exposure-based approach to build assertiveness skills gradually, at your own pace.
These are areas I specialize in, but they're not all I do. I also work with:
Depression — Anxiety — Trauma — ADHD — Social Anxiety — Grief & Loss — Emerging Adulthood — Life Transitions — Self-Esteem — Perfectionism — Family of Origin Wounds — Nutrition — Sleep — Lifestyle Habits
Psychological Assessment
I offer collaborative psychological assessment using the Therapeutic Assessment model. Assessment is a structured, time-limited process designed to answer specific questions about your personality, emotional functioning, relationships, and cognitive patterns. You bring the questions that matter to you, and I build the assessment around them. At the end, we go through the findings together, and you walk away with a written report with individualized recommendations.
Assessment is a separate service from therapy, with its own process, timeline, and fee structure. Whether you are looking to understand yourself better or you are a clinician looking to refer a client for testing, you can learn more on the Psychological Assessment page.
About Dr. Salazar
I'm Max, a licensed psychologist and the founder of MSH Psychotherapy, PLLC. I earned my PsyD from William James College and completed an APA-accredited internship here in Austin.
Before becoming a clinician, I spent years in neuroscience research studying the brain with MRI and EEG. That background shapes how I think about therapy: the relationship between your mind, your brain, your body, and your life circumstances all matter.
I'm originally from Monterrey, Mexico, grew up in San Antonio, and now call Austin home. I offer therapy in both English and Spanish.
